‘hEALTH IS THE CROWN THAT EVERY WOMAN DESERVES TO WEAR’
WHY TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE?
Traditional Chinese medicine is an ancient system that offers holistic diagnosis and treatment for female conditions. In fact, the earliest treatment mentioned for women’s health was recorded over 2000 years ago (Zhang, 2011). In time, theory and treatments have been refined and redefined, keeping in step with the needs of women as society, culture and environmental conditions changed. Today, Chinese medicine offers modern women a wonderful recourse to treat the spectrum of women’s health conditions, often now supported with a growing interest from empirical research.
Therapies work to restore the natural rhythms of the body by balancing yin, yang and the body’s energy, Qi, to correct problems and improve overall health. By addressing and re-establishing this innate balance, Chinese medicine can treat the root cause of conditions, rather than only treating the superficial symptoms.

IN FOCUS:
MENSTRUAL ISSUES- including in our teens
Painful periods. Heavy periods. Irregular periods. No periods at all, or bleeding too frequently within a cycle. They are common complaints of our teenager girls, however just because they are all too common, we shouldn’t assume they are normal.
In Chinese medicine, blood is sacred for a female across her lifecycle. It can tell us so much about the state of her body, with the quality and movement of blood paramount in all the seasons of her life, impacting fertility, conception, pregnancy, childbirth, mental health and menopause. Due to the fundamental importance of blood, we want to deal with any period irregularities, and pain, as soon as those issues arise, so that she has the best possible foundations for adulthood.
Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine has been found to:
Regulate the hormones that govern the menstrual cycle, via regulating the feedback loop between the brain and the ovaries (Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Ovarian axis)
Increase blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, via the relaxation of the nervous system and the dilation of blood vessels.
Promotes regular ovulation via the regulation of reproductive hormones and increased blood flow to the ovaries.
Improve painful periods by regulating prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) levels in menstrual fluid.
Improve symptoms of PCOS, including regulating menstruation and inducing ovulation in PCOS patients.
Acupuncture with Chinese herbal formulas were found effective in treating uterine fibroids via regulating the pituitary gland, thyroid gland system, and the central nervous system.
Acupuncture was found to effectively treat endometriosis via the down-regulation in the abnormal increase of MMP-2 levels. This resulted in the inhibition of the invasion of ectopic tissue to extracellular matrix, thus reducing dysfunctional tissue.
Acupuncture and Chinese herbal formulas were effective in decreasing chronic pelvic inflammation.
Acupuncture was effective in reducing PMS symptoms, including headaches, breast tenderness, bloating, swelling as well as emotional symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and anger.
